With the “Golden Neuron” teaching award, the Psychology Student Council honours teachers who support students in statistics tutorials and exercises. On 23.04.2025, Robin Merchel, who taught an exercise in Statistics and Applied Data Analysis in the winter semester 2024/2025, received this award together with two tutors.
“Some of the students start their studies with a fear of statistics and, above all, programming in R,” says Robin. “We show them that it can all be done. Challenging exercises, but also lots of support in solving them - that's how we teach statistics.”
However, Robin also knows that the biggest thanks go to Prof. Luhmann and her team, who devised the statistics exercise. “According to Studycheck, the bachelor’s degree in psychology in Bochum is the best of all major degree courses in Germany. I am convinced that Prof. Luhmann's great teaching in statistics is an important reason for this!” says Robin enthusiastically. “And I'm grateful to be a small part of this success story myself.”
